Above-Ground Pool Removal in Dothan, AL — We Dismantle & Haul It Away
By Dothan Junk Removal Co. | Backyard Cleanup Guide for the Wiregrass
That above-ground pool that was a great idea in 2016 is now a rusty algae tank taking up your whole backyard. The kids outgrew it. The pump died. You haven't opened it in three seasons and every time you look at it, you feel guilty.
We get it. Dothan Junk Removal Co. removes above-ground pools — we drain, dismantle, and haul everything away so you get your yard back.
The Removal Process
- Drain first: Pool must be empty before we arrive. Don't pump water toward your neighbor's yard — aim for a vegetated area or street drain (check Dothan city code for your zone).
- Dismantle: We take apart the frame, walls, liner, and any attached decking or steps.
- Sort and load: Metal frame goes for recycling. Liner is trash — there's no recycling stream for vinyl pool liners. Deck materials separated by type.
- Site cleanup: We rake the footprint area and leave it clear.
The pool had been sitting empty for two years. They came in, tore it all down, and cleaned up after themselves. Took about 4 hours total for a 24-foot round pool.— Sandra K., Northwood Dothan
Pool Sizes We Remove
Most Dothan backyards have round pools in the 18–24 foot range, but we handle rectangles, ovals, and anything up to about 30 feet round or the equivalent. If you've got an unusually large pool or one with an elaborate deck system attached, call us first and we'll scope it before booking.
What About In-Ground Pools?
In-ground pool removal is a different beast — it involves excavation, concrete demolition, and sometimes permits. That's a job for a pool demolition contractor, not a junk removal company. We do above-ground only.

Drain It Before We Get There
This is the one thing we ask you to handle. A typical 24-foot round pool holds about 13,500 gallons. At typical pump rates, that's 6–10 hours of draining. Start the pump the day before we're scheduled and you should be clear. If the pump died (common with neglected pools), a submersible pump from Home Depot on Montgomery Highway or Lowe's on US-431 runs about $50 to rent for the day.
What Happens to the Metal?
Above-ground pool frames are typically galvanized steel. We separate them for metal recycling, which offsets disposal costs slightly (which is already reflected in our pricing). The aluminum uprights on some brands also go to recycling. The vinyl liner goes to the landfill — we've looked, and there genuinely isn't a recycling program for it in this region.
