What Items Can't Junk Removal Companies Take in Dothan, AL?

The Short List of What We Can't Take
Most things? We take them. But there are a handful of items that either legally can't go to standard disposal facilities or present handling hazards. Here's what they are and what to do instead.
Hazardous Materials
Paint (liquid): Dried-out paint cans are fine. Liquid paint — latex or oil-based — is hazardous waste. Houston County periodically holds hazmat collection days. Check with the county.
Chemical containers: Pesticides, herbicides, pool chemicals, motor oil, solvents. These need to go to a hazmat facility.
Propane tanks: Even "empty" ones still have residual gas. We don't take these. Local propane dealers often accept them for exchange or disposal.
Medical and Biohazard Items
Sharps (needles), medical waste, and any item with biohazard concerns — we don't take these. Medical waste disposal companies in Dothan handle this.

Asbestos-Containing Materials
Old floor tiles, popcorn ceilings, insulation from older homes — if it might contain asbestos, it needs testing and certified abatement before removal. We're not an abatement company.
Batteries (in Large Quantities)
A few AA batteries mixed in with other stuff — that's fine. A pallet of batteries or large automotive batteries in quantity — we'd prefer you direct those to recycling. AutoZone and Advance Auto Parts in Dothan take car batteries.
Everything Else Is Usually Fine
Old furniture, appliances (including refrigerants — we have certified disposal), electronics, construction debris, yard waste, mattresses, clothing, general household junk — all of it, we take. When in doubt, call and ask. We'd rather answer the question than have you not call.
