The Freon Issue

Refrigerators made before 2010 typically contain R-22 refrigerant (Freon). Newer ones use R-410A, R-134a, or other HFC refrigerants. All of these are regulated — you can't puncture the compressor or vent the lines to the atmosphere. It's an EPA violation with real penalties.

Defrost Before We Arrive

If the refrigerator is running, empty it and shut it off at least 24 hours before pickup. This lets it defrost. A fully-frosted freezer unit that hasn't been defrosted is messier and heavier — and we'd rather not drip thaw water through your kitchen on the way out. If it's already dead and defrosted, we're good to go.

The Garage Fridge Situation
