What Happens to Your Junk After We Haul It Away?

Dothan Junk Removal Co. ยท May 2026

People ask us this more than you might think. Usually right as we're loading the truck โ€” "so where does this actually go?" Fair question. Here's the honest answer.

First Stop: We Sort on the Truck

As we load, we're already mentally sorting. Anything that looks usable โ€” good furniture, working appliances, kids' stuff in decent shape โ€” gets set aside mentally. Things that are clearly trash go in a different area of the truck. It's not a perfect science, but experienced crews develop an eye for it fast.

Donation Stops โ€” When It Makes Sense

If we've got furniture, clothes, or household items in good condition, we'll drop them at donation centers in the Dothan area before we hit the landfill. Goodwill on Ross Clark Circle, local thrift stores, churches โ€” we know the spots.

We don't promise every piece gets donated. But we also don't throw away things that have real life left in them. That's wasteful and it's bad for the community.

Metals Get Recycled

Old appliances, metal bed frames, filing cabinets โ€” scrap metal goes to recycling. It's better for the environment, and honestly, it helps offset some of our disposal costs too. Win-win.

The Rest Goes to the Landfill โ€” and That's Okay

Some junk is just junk. Broken stuff, old mattresses, mixed debris โ€” it's going to the landfill. That's what landfills are for. We're not going to pretend every load gets magically recycled, because it doesn't. But we do make an effort to reduce what ends up there.

The Houston County landfill off of US-431 is properly permitted and managed. Your stuff is going to be handled correctly either way.

Questions before you book? Just ask.

We're happy to talk through what we can and can't take before you schedule anything.
